Research is often defined as the first step towards gaining credible knowledge through a process of systematic investigation. In our world, research has developed into a professional field that might not seem as lucrative at the outset as some of the other popular career choices. However, it should be understood that with the advent of new technologies and increasingly competitive market conditions, Research has moved beyond the conventional definition of spending unlimited hours in clinical settings for basic or less-than-usual salaries.
Research has progressed into a full-time and rewarding carer option that can be pursued across many disciplines, including non-scientific categories like Market Research. Research is further categorized into Applied Research and Basic Research. However, the basis of all research activities remains the same, i.e. following a systematic path to discover, identify, interpret, document and establish methods or systems or data for scientific or non-scientific matters.
Other kinds of research include Artistic Research wherein creative works are researched. Market Research is buzzword in the modern, extremely competitive markets wherein research helps to understand the competitors and consumer preferences. However, the most widely acknowledged form of research exists in the form of Medical Research. Here, certain niches like Clinical Research have become quite popular in the recent past with major pharmaceutical brands investing heavily in clinical research applications.
This is particularly true for Asian nations like India where clinical research has developed into an employment-centric field. It should be noted that research related courses are usually offered to students with more-than-average academic records and those who have at least completed graduation with post-graduation often being the eligibility criterion.
Some of the noted, research-centric institutions in India have been listed below:
· Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)
· Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board
· Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC)
· Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR)
· Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM)
· Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)
· Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES)
· Indian Association for Cultivation of Science (IACS)
