Choosing Politics as a Career

Usually, students studying Political Science are considered eligible for taking-up Politics as a career option. However, Politics is one of the few career options that have few, academic restrictions. There are three, main ways to enter the Politics:
1.   Students pursuing Bachelors or Masters in Political Science and have good knowledge of Politics can pursue career in Politics. As they study history and current scenario of Indian Politics so they can education by choosing to become politician.
2.   Those who have politician background can also enter Politics easily as they can use the skills and experience shared by their family politicians. This is likely to become a support for building a successful career in Indian Politics.
3.   Students can become the part of legislative assistants to members of parliament programme. This is one specific programme of duration of 10 months. A specific MP is assisted by the Legislative Assistant (LA) to meet the requirements such as making speeches, preparing debates for committee meetings, conferences and preparing MPs questions is also the task of LA.

Besides these, students who are active about social or political issues and have a genuine interest in taking charge of issues that concern the public opinion or mass welfare can pursue a career in Politics.
Some Immediate advantages of choosing politics as a career:

It assures a decent salary package since politicians are essentially in the government sector, employed by state or central governments.

Respect associated with a politician career is universal and ensures a stature in the society.

Financial benefits are much greater than any profile of the corporate/private sector. This includes extensive health care facilities, free telecommunication facilities and housing as well.

Politics is one of the few careers that extends beyond the age-limitation with politicians often working beyond the stipulated age restrictions.

The recognition associated with the political career ensures that a politician can pursue career as columnist or a feature writer, a media personality or a news reporter even after retiring from an active political profile.

    I still cannot believe that students would look upon Politics as a career option. Isn’t this something that should be done with the purpose of serving the common good or the society?

  5. i find it rather strange that politics is being put forth as a career choice here….is this actually being offered as a course in any of the top colleges anywhere?? is this even possible?

      There are courses that help to establish yourself in Politics such as degree courses in Political Science and Social Sciences that helps people get started in the political niche.

  6. I agree 100% to what you are suggesting and I strongly believe that dedicated courses for political career should e launched…doesn’t it make sense to have our politicians who have had some degree of training in this career choice??
